Return and Refund Policy

Last updated: 27 October 2026

At Law Book Sellers, we want our customers to be satisfied with their purchases. We take care to supply law textbooks, legal reference books, law reports, journals, and other legal publications in the condition described on our website.

If you are not satisfied with your order, please read our Return and Refund Policy below. This policy applies to purchases made through our website, lawbooksellers.co.uk.

1. Returns and Cancellations

If you purchase a book online and change your mind, you generally have the right to cancel your order within 14 days of receiving your goods, in accordance with applicable UK consumer law.

After notifying us that you wish to cancel, you generally have a further 14 days to return the goods.

To request a return or cancellation, please contact our customer support team using the contact details provided below. Please include your order number and the title of the book you wish to return.

2. Conditions for Returning Books

When returning a book because you have changed your mind, please ensure that:

  • The book is returned in reasonable condition.
  • The book has not been unnecessarily damaged, marked, or altered.
  • Any original packaging is retained where reasonably possible.
  • You include your order number or other proof of purchase.

You may handle a book as reasonably necessary to inspect its nature, characteristics, and condition, as you would in a physical bookshop. However, handling beyond what is necessary may reduce the refund amount where permitted by law.

Please note: Books sold as new or used will be assessed according to the condition and description provided at the time of purchase. This policy does not remove your legal rights if a book is faulty, damaged, or not as described.

3. Damaged, Faulty, or Incorrect Items

If you receive a book that is damaged, faulty, or different from the item you ordered, please contact us as soon as possible.

To help us resolve the issue, please provide:

  • Your order number.
  • The title of the book.
  • A description of the problem.
  • Photographs of the damage or incorrect item, where applicable.

Depending on the circumstances and your legal rights, we will arrange an appropriate remedy, which may include a refund or replacement.

If an item is faulty, damaged in transit, or supplied incorrectly, we will explain the return arrangements and will not require you to bear return costs that we are legally responsible for.

4. Refunds

Once your return has been received and assessed, we will notify you of the outcome.

Where a refund is due, it will normally be issued using your original payment method. Refunds will be processed within the time limits required by applicable law.

For eligible online cancellations, refunds are generally due within 14 days of receiving the returned goods or, where applicable, receiving evidence that they have been sent back.

Where required by law, the refund will include the standard delivery charge originally paid. Additional charges for premium delivery may not be refundable beyond the cost of standard delivery.

Your bank or payment provider may require additional time to display the refunded amount in your account.

5. Return Shipping Costs

For returns due to a change of mind, customers are generally responsible for the direct cost of return postage, provided this responsibility was communicated before the purchase and applicable law permits it.

For books that are faulty, damaged, incorrectly supplied, or otherwise eligible for a seller-funded return, we will cover the return costs where required by law.

We recommend using a tracked delivery service and keeping your proof of postage until your return has been resolved.

6. Refunds for Used Books

Law Book Sellers offers both new and used legal publications. Used books may show reasonable signs of previous use, depending on the condition stated in the product listing.

If the condition of a used book matches its description, ordinary signs of use do not automatically make the book eligible for a fault-based refund. However, if the book materially differs from its description, has undisclosed damage, or does not meet applicable legal requirements, please contact us so we can assess the issue.

Your statutory consumer rights remain unaffected.

7. Incorrect Orders

If you receive a different title, edition, or item from the one you ordered, please contact us with your order details.

We will investigate the issue and arrange an appropriate solution in accordance with your legal rights. Please retain the item and its packaging until we provide return instructions.

8. Order Cancellation Before Dispatch

If you wish to cancel an order before it has been dispatched, contact us as soon as possible.

We will make reasonable efforts to stop the order before dispatch. If it has already been dispatched, you may still be able to cancel it under the applicable online cancellation rules.

9. Exceptions and Legal Rights

Certain types of goods or transactions may be subject to exceptions under UK consumer law. Any applicable exception will be assessed according to the nature of the product and the relevant legal requirements.

Nothing in this policy excludes, restricts, or limits any consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, where applicable.
